Val-d’Or Caribou: “If we need a crisis, we’ll do it,” says the Chief of Lac-Simon
Anichinabe leaders denounce the Quebec government’s position on the Val-d’Or caribou herd and say they are ready to mobilize. The subject will be discussed in a meeting between the chiefs next week, according to what Radio-Canada has learned.
It’s very, very shocking, said Lac-Simon Chief Adrienne Jérôme at the outset, regarding the Quebec government’s position on the Val-d’Or caribou herd.
According to her, the government should ensure greater protection of the sector. “It’s not just by killing the wolves that we’re going to save the caribou there, because the caribou, they need the old forests,” she explained.
